Top 5 Highlights:

My top 5 highlights for this week are praying at the tomb of St. Peter, praying at the tomb of St. Paul, going to the top of the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica, climbing the Santa Scala (the stairs that Jesus would have went up when going to see Pontius Pilot), and spending the weekend in Siena.

Reflection:

There is certainly plenty one can talk about when experiencing all that is Rome. There is so much to take in that one may even be left speechless. During this week I have, on more than one occasion, found myself as the latter. As a convert to the faith, coming to Rome has allowed me to experience Catholicism in a whole new way.

We have been blessed this week to have the opportunity to be shown the many different aspects of Rome, particularly in regards to the many beautiful churches, and the ruins of Ancient Rome. As we traveled through the city looking at these magnificent Churches, and having time to pray as we went, I could not help but think of the transcendence of beauty and truth. There is something about truth and beauty that simply pulls one in, we are attracted to it. The beauty and the truth contained in all that is the Catholic faith has in some small way been shown to me throughout this week. There is nothing more beautiful than the Catholic Church and the truth that She has to share with all the world.

As I mentioned, I am a convert to the faith, and having never experienced such overwhelming beauty in one place has been a whole new experience for me. This week has been a testament to not only the beauty and truth of the Church, but how the Church in her beauty draws us in and shows us the glory of God, even in the midst of the noise and chaos of life.
